FAQs

When are you making more boards?
Boards take a variable amount of time to make so it can be hard to predict. Typically, I release a new batch for sale every 2-3 weeks

All boards will be listed for sale through my social media accounts as and when they become available.

Can I pre-order or commission a board?
Each board is made from a unique mix of leaves, setting agents, and a board which may be modern or second hand. I make the boards with what’s seasonal and what looks best. This means I can’t do commissions.

The exception to this is if you can provide the dried foliage yourself. I love collaborating with people to create boards that represent their own gardens. Please get in touch to find out more about this process, and please be aware this process does incur extra costs, and results can’t be guaranteed.

How much does each board cost?
The boards vary in cost depending on the size, board quality, how well the leaves preserve, and how smooth a finish is which I get on the resin. My current price range is between £45 and £280.

Where are you based and how much is postage going to cost?
All boards are posted from the UK and postage varies depending on the size and weight of the board. Generally postage costs the following:

£5-10 UK
£13-20 EU
£25-30 USA
£19-25 Aus

What do you make the boards out of?
I use preserved foliage that I grow in my garden and I’ve foraged from around the UK.
I am careful never to gather too much from any one plant and follow sustainable foraging practices.

I upcycle vintage boards I find in antique shops and eBay and I buy from local workshops. The boards are almost as variable as the plants!

What’s your process?
I preserve the flowers and leaves over several weeks using a combination of microwave and book pressing. Then I carefully arrange and adhere them in board formation.

I usually seal them with acrylic or Brite tone to provide UV protection.

Then comes the tricky part! I use several coats of assorted types of resin to achieve a mirror like finish and safely encapsulate the foliage. This is a process that spans several days and is a labour of love, patience and perseverance.

Given resins’ temperamental nature this can occasionally result in occlusions and small blemishes in the layers of finish. When this occurs it is reflected in the price of the piece and is mentioned in the listings description.

Each layer must cure for several days, meaning it takes at least a week for each board to be assembled and made available for sale.

Resin achieves full hardness over 30 days so it’s important to be gentle with your board for the first few weeks after you receive it.

Will the leaves last forever?
As with all things in nature, the leaves will change colour over time. Each leaf ages in a unique way; some turn a deep sepia, some a faded pastel, some even turn into a nebula of different hues. This process can begin over months or years depending on how the board is stored. To delay the change in colours keep the board away from UV light and humidity.

What are the counters made from?
My handmade counters are made from slices of Birch bark, stained in contrasting colours, sealed with Linseed oil, and then lined with soft fabric to prevent scuff marks on the board. My acorn counters are made from dried foraged acorns that are filled with preserved plants inside a delicate dew drop of resin.

How do I care for my board?
Treat your board gently for the first few weeks. I recommend using a dice cup for the first few days if possible.

Use a soft cloth to wipe fingerprints/marks off the board and use resin polish to buff out scratches.

Keep away from UV light whilst being stored as UV causes the premature discolouration of leaves.

Do not use spray cleaner on the outer case, wipe with a damp cloth and then a dry kitchen towel to remove marks but do not allow the surface to be subject to excess humidity.

If you bought your board via a website or app which allows you to leave feedback, please do! Feedback allows other people to learn more about the boards, as well as helping make it easier for people to find me.

I read every piece of feedback and really appreciate the kind words people have said.

Something is wrong, what do I do?
Things go wrong from time to time, and that’s ok. Please get in touch with me directly and we can solve the issue.
